GSR II & Cybersecurity: What's changing from 2026 – and why Ahorn Camp is ready today

The European General Safety Regulation II (GSR II) marks one of the biggest upheavals in vehicle legislation in recent years. From July 2026, extensive safety, assistance, and cybersecurity requirements will be mandatory for all newly registered vehicles – including light commercial vehicles and motorhomes.

What this specifically means, what impact this has on prices, technology, and inventory vehicles, and why Maple Camp We explain in this post how it offers its customers a decisive advantage here.

GSR II from 2026 – The Most Important Things at a Glance

What is changing with the GSR II mandatory systems?

With the new EU regulation, numerous assistance systems will be mandatory series equipment, which have often been optional until now. The goal is to reduce accidents caused by fatigue, inattention, or limited visibility – a particularly important safety gain for large and heavy vehicles like motorhomes.

Among the most important required systems are:

These systems deeply intervene in the electronics and software architecture of vehicles – consequently, the technical and regulatory effort for manufacturers is correspondingly high.

Do motorhomes become heavier because of this?

Yes – however only minimal.
The additional sensors, cameras, and control units usually result in an increased weight of under ten kilograms. Relative to the total weight of a motorhome, this increase is practically negligible. Many vehicles today already have individual systems of this type, but have not been fully GSR-II-homologated until now.

Will the vehicles get more expensive?

In short: Yes.
The mandatory integration of new safety and assistance systems, modern electronics architectures, software, as well as homologation and testing processes increase the cost of base vehicles. These additional costs are reflected by the chassis manufacturers in new GSR II-compliant list prices and are subsequently passed on to the end customer by the motorhome manufacturers.

How much this affects individual cases depends on the manufacturer, engine, and equipment. Blanket statements are disreputable. However, one thing is clear:
is entitled to the additional charge significantly higher level of security, more future-proofing, and better value retention opposite.

What happens to older vehicles without GSR II?

Vehicles that have already been produced and have a valid type approval may, within the framework of a Transition period (Derogation) continue to be sold and newly registered. Therefore, they will not suddenly lose their eligibility for registration.

However, in practice, it often turns out that:
Such vehicles are coming under price pressure as they no longer meet the latest legal and technical standards.

Impacts on the motorhome body

GSR II affects not only the chassis, but also the Structure.
Reversing cameras and parking sensors will have to be seamlessly integrated in the future, with prescribed installation heights, fields of vision, and no shadowing from the body structure. Other sensors must also not be obscured.

For bodybuilders, this means:

Technologically one step ahead – thanks to Renault Master

Here Ahorn Camp deliberately relies on a clear advantage:
With the new Renault Master chassis, Ahorn Camp already today the binding EU requirements of GSR II as well as the UNECE regulations from July 2026 R155 (Cyber Security) and R156 (Software Update Management).

The Renault The Master comes standard with these features – including:

What does this mean for Ahorn Campcustomers who opt for a 2026 model?

Specifically:

While many manufacturers will still have to re-homologate their vehicles by 2026, the current Ahorn Camp Models already fully GSR-II- and Cybersecuritycompliant.
We order and configure together with our clients exclusively already approved vehicles – the calculated final price therefore corresponds in practice to the final, legally compliant motorhome.

Conclusion: More security, more future, more clarity

GSR II und die neuen Cybersecurity-Vorgaben verändern den Reisemobilmarkt nachhaltig. Fahrzeuge werden technisch komplexer, sicherer – und langfristig wertstabiler.

With Ahorn Camp, you are choosing today for:
Most modern technology, maximum security, and full future-proofing.
