By motorhome through the endless expanse of Scotland - The rough North Atlantic and huge flocks of sheep. The endless Highlands and the ruins of ancient castles. This destination has been on our travel bucket list for so long. As photographers and travel bloggers, we dreamed of the beautiful light and endlessness of the Isle of Skye, of long hikes through the middle of nowhere. Of dramatic Scottish skies and ancient towns full of atmosphere.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If Scotland, then in a motorhome. That was clear to us from the start.<\/h6>\n

We love the endless freedom that this type of travel offers us. The contact with nature, with the rugged wilderness. But above all the great opportunities it gives us as photographers. Being able to spend the night anywhere, completely independently and spontaneously at the most beautiful spots. This gives us the opportunity to be the first on location first thing in the morning. All alone in the silence and the magic of the first light of day. It gives us the opportunity to experience the clear night under the Milky Way and to explore those remote, fantastic places that we long for. For us, traveling by motorhome means actually \"being there\". Being there in nature, in the Scottish wilderness. And not \"looking around for a few hours and then off to the hotel in the city\".<\/p>\n

For our plan - to drive through the endless expanse of Scotland in a motorhome - we were looking for a small, compact motorhome that would allow us to drive comfortably on small mountain roads and easily find a parking space anywhere, while still offering enough space for all our photographic equipment. We wanted to be as self-sufficient as possible, so we didn't want to have to rely on campsites. Always cook for ourselves and have plenty of storage space for supplies. Nevertheless, we didn't want to miss out on comfort - after a long day of taking photos on strenuous hikes, we long for a comfortable bed and coziness. The ACT 590 Plus from Ahorn was perfect for us. In fact, it offered us even more storage space than we needed. Yet it was so short and compact that it was very relaxed to drive anywhere - in Edinburgh's city traffic and on the winding, narrow roads of the Scottish Highlands.<\/p>\n

We set off from Frankfurt.<\/h6>\n

Via Belgium and France, from Calais to Dover across the sea, we drove once through the whole of Great Britain to the far north and the endless expanse of Scotland. Two weeks of incredible beauty lay ahead of us. Two weeks full of friendly people, ancient ruins and breathtaking landscapes. 14 days full of exploring and discovering a country that was even more impressive than we had imagined. 14 days in which we were incredibly happy about our decision to rent a motorhome, because it gave us incredible freedom and spontaneity. And photo opportunities that we would otherwise never have discovered at 5 a.m. far from civilization.<\/p>\n

In the motorhome, we always had the most beautiful view from our \"bedroom window\".<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We spent the night right next to the magnificent Loch Lomond - the sound of the waves in our ears.<\/h6>\n

In Glencoe, we slept in the middle of the rugged mountains and in the overwhelming sunset of Duncansby, alone on the cliffs. The roaring North Atlantic beneath us and the puffins beside us. We drove 5500 kilometers through incredible landscapes that left even us, as well-traveled landscape photographers, speechless. Every morning we stood outside our motorhome at 5 o'clock in the most beautiful places in the country. Completely alone in absolute silence, enjoying the sun as it slowly came over the horizon and bathed the beautiful country in the first light of day.<\/p>\n

After our morning photo hikes, we had breakfast outside. In the amazingly mild 20\u00b0C of April in Scotland, this was probably the best start to the day we could have wished for. We lost our hearts to the Isle of Skye<\/a>. This island, which seems to lie in the middle of heaven, is probably one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. The nature that awaited us here is of indescribable beauty. We would have loved to stay here for months. In our camper van, not in a house, so that we could wake up in a different place every morning.<\/p>\n

We never actually visited campsites in Scotland to stay overnight, but only a few times during the day. But only to fill up our fresh water and empty the waste water and toilet. This is possible almost everywhere for a few pounds. Comfortable showers and a friendly chat are always included. With several thousand photos, many hours of film footage and memories to last a lifetime, after two weeks the roads led us back through increasingly flat landscapes, finally through England to our home in Germany.<\/p>\n

Rugged Scotland - we miss it.<\/h6>\n
