Spring cleaning for your motorhome
Make your motorhome fit for the new season nowThe Spring cleaning for your motorhome is, like every year, the start of an exciting motorhome season. However, the perfect start to the season does not begin with planning your first destination. First you have to make your vehicle fit for the upcoming tours. This includes not only an extensive spring clean, but also an important check of inlets, drains, gas and water levels. What is the best way to organise spring cleaning? And what do I need to pay attention to after standing for so long in winter? We have compiled useful steps and tips below to help you get your motorhome fit for the new season and plan your next tours without any worries.
To do your spring cleaning
First of all it should be mentioned that spring cleaning is not only very important in the house. Your motorhome also benefits from thorough cleaning and inspection from the outside and inside. This makes it easier to detect any damage to the body or the seals. You should therefore thoroughly remove dust and dirt from them and check them carefully. If you detect any damage, contact your service partner immediately. If they are not repaired in time, this can lead to leakage.

Cleaning the roof is also very important. Here we recommend the use of a large ladder. Pay particular attention to a firm stand, so that you can clean the roof surface without restrictions and above all without accidents. Please refrain from cleaning in a truck wash. The cleaning agents and brushes used there can damage the sensitive plastic parts of your motorhome. When using cleaning agents, pay attention to the possibility of using GRP bodies. The use of abrasive cleaners is not recommended.
After thorough external cleaning, you can apply a seal maintenance. Due to dryness and cold these quickly become porous and form small cracks. By using appropriate care materials, they remain supple and extend their service life. Our Service Team will be happy to advise you on the selection of the right products.
Initially, interior cleaning is not absolutely necessary for the use of the motorhome, but it should be carried out nevertheless in order to check the functions in the interior at the same time. Take particular care not to use too much water when cleaning the interior. Any moisture that may have accumulated in the interior can quickly lead to problems. We therefore recommend that you wipe off any remaining water directly and dry.

The spring check for your motorhome - step by step instructions
top up the water
To ensure that no frost damage has occurred to the pipeline during the winter period, it is important to check it thoroughly. First close all open valves and taps in the wet room and kitchen (middle position between hot and cold). When all drains are closed, fill the water tank. Switch on the water pump when it is completely filled. Now check all water pipes, hose clamps and connectors. The water taps, shower and WC flush must also be checked for suitability.
At the same time, check the waste water pipes and the tightness of the waste water tank. Also check the tightness of the toilet cassette and replace the seal if necessary.
Connecting the gas and checking for leaks
At the beginning of each season we recommend that you determine the amount in your gas cylinder and have it refilled if necessary. When connecting the gas bottle to the gas system, please ensure that it is completely sealed and that no gas can escape.
If you do not have a leak detection spray at hand, you can also mix washing-up liquid with some water and apply this solution to the transitions. If these are leaking, small bubbles will appear.
Installing the batteries - connecting and charging
Insert the battery removed over the winter and connect to the power circuit. Now you should fully charge the battery and keep an eye on the charge level for a few days. If the battery is completely discharged during the winter break, it may cause the battery to discharge too quickly. This would not be beneficial for your next trip. In such a case, we would therefore recommend that you replace the battery.
Check the oil level of the engine
It is important to check the oil level not only at the start of the season, but also before every long trip. After the vehicle has been parked for a longer period of time, it is also advisable to look under the engine compartment to see whether any oil has leaked during the time the vehicle is parked.
Make sure that the fill level corresponds to the prescribed quantity. If necessary, fill it up with the engine oil intended for your vehicle.
Check fluids
It is also recommended to check the radiator fluid and the level of the windscreen wiper system. Fill the wiper system with the appropriate fluid or with water depending on the temperature. Checking the brake fluid is also an advantage. It should also be changed regularly.
Adjusting the lights
Check the position of your headlights before each journey. These can vary depending on the tyre pressure and the load of the vehicle. This not only impairs your vision in the dark, but can also blind oncoming drivers and lead to dangerous situations.
Check the air pressure in the tyres and adjust if necessary
Last but not least, you should check and adjust the tyre pressure of your vehicle. You should also check the tread depth of your tyres. Uneven wear of the tyres can also be quickly detected by regular visual inspection and can be remedied by changing the tyres. Your safety should always come first here.
Also check the spare wheel in your vehicle. If you use a puncture kit, check the expiry date of the sealant.
