Successful away game in Ulm
Final score 91:95Show of strength in Ulm
The Ahorn Camp BIS Baskets Speyer have won their third point game in a row in the Second Basketball Bundesliga ProB. The Palatinate team won 95-91 (82-82, 42-34) after overtime at the Orange Academy in Ulm. "It was a hard-fought but well-deserved victory," said BIS coach Carl Mbassa.
The Speyer team decided the first three quarters in their favour, in the third they even gained a 21-point lead. "After that, we were limited in our rotation," Mbassa explained. He pointed out that Darian Cardenas, Valentin Rappold and David Aichele were each charged with four fouls at that point.
The young Ulm team started to play catch-up and forced overtime. "In the overtime, we showed that we are a fighting team that can struggle and not be intimidated," explained the BIS coach after the show of strength. In any case, in the extra five minutes, the team from Speyer gave the Swabians, who were slightly favoured before the game, a 13:9 defeat.
Although BIS captain Darian Cardenas had to be treated for minutes after an unfortunate collision with teammate Michael Acosta Marte, he was one of the players in the ranks of the cathedral cities who scored in double figures with twelve points. Top scorer in the Ulm Arena was Marc Liyanage (18 points/2 threes) ahead of DJ Woodmore (17/3). Rappold (15) shone with six assists and centre Acosta Marte (15/1) was on hand with eleven rebounds.
On Saturday, 30 October, his team will face the next acid test against the promotion candidates EPG Baskets Koblenz in their home Nordhalle from 7.30 pm.
