Home game against Ebbecke White Whings Hanau
Final score 88:83Ahorn Camp BIS Baskets defeat Hanau
The spell is broken. After two defeats in the Barmer 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProB, Ahorn Camp BIS Baskets Speyer celebrated their first victory of the season. The team of coach Carl Mbassa defeated White Wings Hanau in the PSD-Bank-Halle Nord after extra time with 88:83 (78:78, 41:29). "In extra time we turned the game around. This is important for the team's self-confidence," stressed BIS sports manager Gerd Kopf.
Before the change of sides, it had looked like the Speyer team would be successful. They dominated the first two quarters and were usually in the lead with more than ten points. After the half-time break, however, the Hessians took advantage of the many misses by the now unfocused Speyer team, started a 9-0 run and took the lead shortly afterwards. "At the beginning of the third quarter we were ahead with 19 points. Then we suffered unnecessary ball losses. That almost broke our neck," said sports manager Kopf. In extra time, the BIS team showed strong nerves.
The outstanding player on the field was Speyers Center Simun Kovac, who marked 31 points and was on hand 16 times for rebounds. Double-digit points were scored for the Palatinate team, who had to do without the US American Jordan Rezendes due to an adductor injury, as well as Darian Cardenas (25) and Eric Curth (12). Best throwers of the Hanau team, who lacked the experienced center Josef Eichler, were Malik Kudic (20) and Till-Joscha Jönke (19).
